User Reviews

  • Either I'm doing everything wrong, or it simply doesn't work on Windows 10. The only program it seems to install (in C:\Program Files (x86)\ipFilterUpdater ) is unins000.exe. There's no desktop or taskbar icon. After searching, I found a script called update.cmd in the ipFilterUpdater\runtime folder and ran it. The program wget seems to run correctly, but it isn't clear whether gzip runs. After running update.cmd, neither ipfilter.dat.gz nor ipfilter.dat exists in the runtime folder, so the copy to %appdata%\uTorrent fails. UPDATE: The script attempts to download to a folder inside the protected system folder C:\Program Files (x86), which is prohibited. wget says the download succeeded, but it's lying. I know how to fix it, but I'm prohibited from posting the code because it contains a URL. In fact, this site threw away everything I'd typed when I unwittingly attempted to post the modified script. Not nice, but also not unexpected after the script killed uTorrent without any warning that this was about to happen. In my version, I echo a warning and pause so that the user can stop the script or terminate uTorrent gracefully so that it doesn't have to slowly recheck numerous torrents after restarting it. Basically, the script should cd "%temp%" and then run wget and gzip using full pathnames like "%~dp0\wget.exe" (including the quotes.)
  • "digiex.net/guides-reviews/guides-tutorials/application-guides/937-enable-update-ip-filter-block-list-utorrent-ipfilter-dat.html" for others to figure out HOW exactly to use this. I would give a higher rating IF ONLY you wrote a more thorough walk-through about how this thing actually works. Were you expecting people to just figure this out by themselves??? No notepad, cmd prompt covers NOTHING about what we need to do. I have to go and search online on how to make this thing work. WTF?

Hello xiaxueyi. We are very sorry you feel this way. The configuration for xTorrent clients varies between them. We would have to detail the configuration for every client out there. There are quite a few. innovator4life has the right idea in seeking directions for his/her client.
  • Well...this ip filter is not very good 'cause some ip ranges have ben added probably by mistake... I can just say something wrong inside 'cause many ips have been blacklisted despite that some of them are concerning several high trusted torrent seeders since many months or even many years... And i can even say that this mistake concerns several countries as well... I don't know who is the author of this last one but it's definitively a well bad work on many ip ranges. Not on all but there's a lot of mistakes for sure in this one. So, before deciding to blacklist some of them, the author should ask more to be sure... Definitively not very coherent as well... Really too bad... regards

Hello torpedo2014. We are very sorry you feel this way. The list of addresses is downloaded with the Update feature. This should be the first thing you run. We are not the authors of the lists, so cannot easily verify their authenticity.
  • I agree that it runs smoothly, small, and quick. I just follow the directions on my client's site (µTorrent) to enable IP filtering. I can't speak to how frequently it is or has been updated but obviously that is a crucial point. I've used it for 2 years now without a call from my ISP. ;-)

Top man/woman innovator4life. Hope it continues to be useful. We have all but abandoned this project as there is much more exciting work to do...
  • I created an account just to write this review. Program appears to work as of 07/08/13 *EXCEPT*: 1) It creates no icons on the desktop when it stated it would. 2) There is no installed program listed in the Start|All Programs menu. I assume that's where the screenshot came from. Program does update the ipfilter.dat file into the correct utorrent directory but you can't check the last file date, etc. Running WinXP SP3.

Hello atleast10, We are very sorry you feel this way. The notification about 'Icons on the Desktop' is a by-product of the installer technology in use. Technically we ought to edit the messages to the user during install time.
